This open event took place at the Village Hall, West Kilbride on the 26th November 2006. Over 1500 households in West Kilbride received leaflets inviting them to " meet the makers". This was partly intended to celebrate the success of winning "Enterprising Britain 2006 - and the role played by the makers in that success. But it was also aimed at encouraging a dialogue between the community and the makers - an opportunity for people to get an idea of the level of skill and time involved and for makers to answer visitor"s questions and encourage more participation.

West Kilbride has once again lifted the top award in a national competition.
West Kilbride Craft & Design Initiative was recognised by the Scottish Urban Regeneration Forum in its annual Awards for Best Practice in Urban Regeneration.

National Play Day, on 3rd August, celebrated the importance of play. National Play Day is partly about giving children and families a great day out, but also aims to get across some serious messages about play and children. Supported by the Children's Play Council, Playday is a special annual day of local events organised by local people when children and adults everywhere celebrate the child's right to play.

West Kilbride Craft & Design Town was voted, by a unanimous decision, as winner of Enterprising Britain 2006, a Department of Trade and Industry nationwide competition to find the most enterprising place in the UK - the city, town, place or area in the country that is best improving economic prospects and encouraging enterprise.

West Kilbride Craft & Design Town has been voted the most enterprising place in Scotland.
In a stunning result the town has won the top prize in the Scottish heat of The Department of Trade & Industry's Enterprising Britain 2006 competition. Instigated by the Chancellor Gordon Brown, it is an annual contest to celebrate towns, cities or areas that are encouraging enterprise.

Milliner Donna Morrow is the latest designer-maker to join those already established in Craft Town Scotland, and she looks forward to being part of Craft Town Scotland.
Donna"s passion for millinery has seen her business grow from making hats for family and friends to the creation of bespoke headwear at the highest level. Using traditional methods coupled with the finest materials, which range from quality Italian straws to luxurious silks, she designs and makes unique, handcrafted headwear.

Set off the main A78 road to Largs, West Kilbride"s studios and gallery need the added impact of Brown Tourism Signs to confirm its status as one of North Ayrshire"s cultural destinations.

Husband and wife team Sandy & Lizz have operated "Out-of-Hand since the early days of the craft studios. After almost three years, they have decided to concentrate activities at their home workshop in Dalry.
They expressed their appreciation of the community support they have received during their time with Craft Town Scotland, and that they will leave with many happy memories and new friends.

West Kilbride boasts an active Environmental Group that has been instrumental in providing an amazing display of floral displays and hanging baskets that have helped the town reach six finals of "Scotland in Bloom.
This year the group decided to submit a garden design by architect Angus Starling for inclusion in the Chelsea Flower Show. Whilst not successful on this occasion, the design was recommended to the panel at Tatton Park, who selected the design for this year"s show.

Congratulations to Marion, who is one of the selected exhibitors taking part in 100% Proof, an influential touring exhibition curated by Dorothy Hogg MBE, Head of Jewellery and Silversmithing at Edinburgh College of Art. Marion"s work is represented by a silver vessel form bearing the distinctive surface texture and exquisitely considered gold leaf markings for which her pieces are renowned.
