Barony Exhibition Centre - Communities Scotland Funding Boost

The plan to develop the Barony Exhibition Centre received another boost when Communities Scotland awarded a "New Ideas grant as a contribution towards the feasibility study being undertaken by EKOS Consultants.

EKOS is an established economic development and regeneration consultancy firm that has produced work on behalf of a variety of clients including the Scottish Arts Council, Shetland Arts Development Agency, the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow, public agencies including Futurebuilders Scotalnd, the Community Regeneration Fund in Dumfries and the Glasgow Key Fund.

Feedback has been positive, with findings supporting the view that there is a good opportunity for WKCIL to progress with the redevelopment of the Barony to create a successful craft and exhibition venue in West Kilbride.

Not only will the centre be able to host top quality exhibitions but it will support a programme of craft demonstrations and workshops open to the public, ranging from beginners to master classes, run by professional crafters. These activities will add to what is already on offer to locals and visitors alike, with the Craft Studios still operating as before.

WKCIL Directors are also delighted with the response from the local community, people are coming forward with ideas and events and pledging money to the Barony Restoration Fund.
