Work is now well underway on the redevelopment of the listed cottages at Happy Hills. Part of the heart and soul of West Kilbride town centre for many, many generations, the creation of four new craft studios on the site of what once were weavers cottages is a wonderful boost for Craft Town Scotland.
Once again West Kilbride Community Initiative owe a great debt of gratitude to the Moffat family, who have purchased and are refurbishing the cottages on behalf of the community. In the very early days of WKCIL"s ambitious plans for the creation of Scotland"s first Craft and Design Town, it was the intervention of the Moffat Charitable Trust that enabled the creation of the very first craft studios in 24 and 30 Ritchie Street.

We have enquiries from a range of crafters - a potter, a weaver, a wool spinner and dyer, a bespoke leather sporran maker, a tapestry graduate, a furniture maker and textile artist and hot-glass beadmaker.
Virgil Bauzys our resident basket weaver needs to expand his studio - he hopes to take on an apprentice very soon to cope with the demand for his wonderful basket work - so we may me doing a little bit of "studio shuffling" as well!
Hopefully the new Happy Hills Craft Studios will be open for business in the late Autumn - just in time for the West Kilbride Yuletide Night.
